McMichael Canadian Art Collection is one of Canada’s most famous art museums and cultural landmarks.
Location: Kleinburg, ON
Season: Open for all season
Located in the charming village of Kleinburg in Vaughan, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection specializes in Canadian art, especially:
- the Group of Seven
- Indigenous art
- Inuit art
- contemporary Canadian artists
The gallery was founded in the 1960s by Robert and Signe McMichael, who wanted to create a home dedicated to Canadian art and landscapes. Today, it contains thousands of artworks and is especially known for the iconic paintings of the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson.
The architecture itself feels rustic and Canadian:
- warm wood interiors
- stone walls
- large windows overlooking forests
- lodge-style atmosphere
The setting is intentionally designed to reflect the Canadian wilderness often shown in the artwork.
