Fort Severn is the northernmost permanently inhabited community in Ontario, sitting right on the Hudson Bay coast in the subarctic far north.
Location: Kenora, ON
Season: Open for all seasons
Key features:
- Flat, treeless tundra near the coast
- Muskeg and wetlands inland
- Strong coastal winds from Hudson Bay
- Permafront influence in ground conditions
- Very long winter season
Fort Severn is extremely remote, with tundra-like landscapes, coastal winds, and long winters that feel close to the Arctic.
There are no connecting roads to southern Ontario. It feels closer to Nunavut than the rest of the province.
